An archaeological expedition in southern Greece made an incredible discovery: the researchers are sure that they have found the temple of Poseidon of Samos, described by the ancient Greek historian Strabo. His writings mention a huge sanctuary built between 700 and 480 BC. e. This is an important point in ancient history.
The discovery was made on the acropolis of the ancient city of Samikon (Samikum). Once it was a metropolis in Hellas, located in the Peloponnese, namely, on the Kleidi hill near the modern town of Kato Samiko.
During the excavations, a foundation 9.4 meters wide and 28 meters long was found, as well as fragments of a roof and a marble periranterium (a reservoir used for rituals). All this allows us to confirm the dating of the building by the archaic period.
