Discussions on creating a platform for inter-parliamentary dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia may take place in Geneva in March, General Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong told “Trend”.
“I held discussions with the authorities of Azerbaijan and I am satisfied with the answer I received. At this stage, we strive to reach an agreement in principle that the Inter-Parliamentary Union will provide a platform for the two countries to gather at the parliamentary level and frankly and honestly discuss the issues that, if solved, can help strengthen peace in the region,” he said.
According to Chungon, the union plans to invite the high-ranking leaders of the parliaments of both countries for discussions.
“We believe in parliamentary diplomacy that complements the traditional form of diplomacy formulated by the executive branch,” the official said.
