On October 20, the Partizansky District Court of Minsk considered an administrative case against a local resident. She was accused of “picketing” with a white-red-white umbrella, according to the published court ruling.
A woman – her last name is indicated by the first letter “Ya.” – detained during the day on the 2nd Bagration Lane.
“In order to publicly express her socio-political sentiments, she walked with a white-red-white umbrella, demonstrating it to citizens,” the protocol says.
Thus, according to the police, the Minsk resident held an unauthorized picket without permission from the Minsk City Executive Committee.
The fact of the “picket” in the case materials was confirmed by a photograph. As stated in the court document, the photo shows that a Minsk woman is walking with an open umbrella along the courtyard territory, next to her are an elderly woman and “the person who took the photograph.”
The woman partially admitted her guilt at the trial: she said that she did not pursue political goals, but was simply hiding from the rain with an umbrella, but “at the moment she understands that her actions could have caused a reaction from the citizens who saw her.”
The court found her guilty. But I discovered extenuating circumstances: it turned out that the Minsk woman was raising two children, including one minor, and was pregnant. In addition, she has a permanent job, and the previous administrative penalties have already expired.
Therefore, they decided not to send the woman to prison for a day, but to punish her “only” with a fine of 50 basic units – 1,850 rubles.
Her mobile phone was confiscated until a fine was paid, and her white, red and white umbrella was ordered to be destroyed.
