Vasiliy Prozorov was wounded in the arms and legs, a Russian security source told the state-run Ria Novosti news agency.

A source in the rescue services told Russian media that he was injured when a device mounted under an SUV exploded outside his home in northern Moscow.

An anonymous source said that the explosion occurred when V. Prozorov was starting the car.

Footage posted on social media shows part of the car exploding as a man gets into it in a car park outside a residential building.

Russian state media quoted an unnamed source close to Prozorov as saying he was alive and his life was not in danger.

In March 2019, V. Prozorov held a press conference in Moscow, where he said that he moved from Ukraine to Russia for “ideological reasons”.

On Friday, RIA Novosti reported that he had given an interview to the agency days before the apparent assassination attempt.

She quoted him as saying that he worked for the SBU in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhia region and moved to Kyiv in April 2014 and “contacted representatives of the Russian security services and offered to cooperate.”

“From the first days I started working, providing information to the security services of the Russian Federation,” he said.

During the two-year-long Russian war, a number of officials who collaborated with Moscow in occupied Ukraine became the targets of assassination attempts.
