The night before the fashion show, Sébastien Meyer was overcome by fear. And not because of the show itself, but because of the show after the show: Would people like your idea? Would they be outraged, perhaps even get up and leave? “I told Sébastien that that wasn’t possible, fashion shows only last a few minutes,” says Arnaud Vaillant. “But he just said: I don’t care. I want a show after a show, an experience. And I want Bella Hadid.” Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, the creative duo behind the fashion label Coperni, had this idea in the back of their minds for a long time. The two flew to London three times to meet with scientists, and twice they rehearsed the performance in Paris – but not with the model Bella Hadid.

She only showed up two hours before her performance. She walked elegantly to the stage, completely naked except for a pair of panties, and allowed herself to be covered in spray-on material, which quickly became a dress made of cellulose. Not just any dress with a simple cut, but one with a slit in the front and the straps falling elegantly over the shoulder. The choreography for the performance was created by the twenty-seven year old. The video, recorded in September 2022, has been seen by more than 7.3 million people on Instagram and more than 377,000 have liked it. It also reached and inspired people who otherwise don’t have much to do with fashion. A tribute to the woman, her body, her strength, but also her weakness. Since then, eyes in Paris have turned not only to the long-established brands like Chanel, Saint Laurent and Dior, but also to this young label called Coperni. “Do you know the expression ‘to break the internet’? That’s what happened with the video,” says Vaillant. “Our Instagram profile literally exploded, so much so that we had to contact the platform.”
