At 43, Maël is a private detective – also called a private research agent. A profession that he has been practicing for almost ten years, whose independence and variety he praises, but which is far removed from the preconceived ideas permeating the collective imagination. “Our job is not at all what you see in a novel or in a series,” warns the professional.

Even if it looks nothing like Adrian Monk, Sherlock Holmes or Veronica Mars, the profession of private detective is vast, explains Maël, manager of the company “In the service of proof”. He can work on behalf of an individual, on “requests to search for adultery” as part of proceedings for faulty divorce, for example. In separation cases, “we may need a detective for issues of custody rights, children, alimony”.
