The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the seizure of an island planted with drugs in the heart of the Nile, belonging to one of the villages of the Abnoub Police Station in Assiut, one of the Upper Egypt governorates in the south of the country.

The Egyptian Interior Ministry stated that “the security services received information about a number of dangerous people cultivating drugs on an island in the Nile.”

Investigations revealed that “16 highly dangerous elements are cultivating and trafficking in narcotic substances on a Nile island belonging to one of the villages of the Abnoub Police Station in Assiut Governorate.”

She added, “By targeting them, they took the initiative to fire shots at the forces, as the interaction resulted in the injury of one of them and the arrest of the others,” noting that “6.5 tons of the drug banjo were seized, 10 acres planted with the narcotic opium and banjo plants, 16 automatic rifles, 51 safes, and a large number of bullets.” .

The Ministry announced that “the financial value of the seized narcotic drugs amounted to about 36.5 million pounds,” stressing that “all the elements were arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution, which undertook the investigation.”
