by time news

In the Sverdlovsk region, for the first time, four cases of infection with the Omicron strain were registered, the regional headquarters reported on its Telegram channel. In total, about 800 people were infected with the omicron strain in Russia.

“The test results have been laboratory confirmed and verified. Prior to this, a new strain of coronavirus was already recorded in four dozen regions of Russia. All necessary anti-epidemic measures are being taken with the infected and their circle of contacts,” the message says.

In total, 564 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the Sverdlovsk region over the past day, 20 people died. In the region after the New Year holidays, there is a daily increase in cases. The total number of cases as of January 16 reached 205,674, more than 179,000 people recovered, and 9,745 died. In general, the incidence in Russia is also growing, over the past day 29.2 thousand infected have been detected, this is the maximum since December 12.

According to Alexander Kharitonov, chief freelance specialist in medical prevention at the regional Ministry of Health, about 60% of the population of the Sverdlovsk region has been vaccinated. At the same time, for vaccination to have an effect, at least 80% of the population must be vaccinated, he says. The doctor also expressed confidence that the coronavirus will not stop mutating, but the Omicron strain will be his “last serious attack.”

It should be noted that last week the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev extended the “QR vacation” for a number of public places until January 20. For another week without QR codes, catering establishments, fitness centers, beauty salons, stand-alone shops, saunas, dry cleaners, children’s playrooms and camps will be allowed to enter.
