In one of the Ukrainian cities, Kharkov, in recognition of courage and self-sacrifice, one of the streets was renamed in honor of Sergeant Alexey (Asher) Neykov from the IDF.

This was announced by Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Brodsky, referring to Israeli journalist Shimon Briman.

Sergeant Neykov found himself in the spotlight after saving dozens of children during a terrorist attack on a school bus. The Israeli Ambassador mentioned that young Alexey, returning to Israel from Kharkov in 1996, dreamed of a career at the Technion, where he planned to study astronautics and aerodynamics. However, before realizing his academic ambitions, he decided to devote time to serving in the IDF.

The events of October 29, 1998 are remembered by many not only for tragedy, but also for heroism. Mikhail Brodsky told the story of how terrorists aimed a car with explosives at school buses carrying children, but thanks to the courage of IDF soldiers, the attack was repelled. The victim of this attack was Sergeant Neikov himself, who, together with his colleagues, was guarding the children by turning his jeep across the road.

Renaming the street in honor of Alexei Neykov became a symbol of recognition of his valiant deed. Residents of Kharkov, together with local authorities, decided to preserve his memory by endowing the street with the name of the hero.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the Ukrainian Embassy issued an appeal regarding the strike of the Russian Armed Forces on Odessa. After the missile attack on Odessa, the Ukrainian Embassy appealed to the international community with an urgent call to action.
