The head of the State Inspectorate for Control in the Sphere of Informatization and Telecommunications of Uzbekistan (Uzkomnazorat) Golibsher Ziyayev has been removed from office after the regulator restricted access to a number of social networks, the press secretary of the President of the country Sherzod Asadov said. Earlier on Wednesday, Uzkomnazorat restricted the work of Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, Odnoklassniki, Moi Mir, LinkedIn and YouTube, citing the fact that these platforms violated the law on personal data. The restrictions on their work have already been lifted.

“On behalf of the President, the head of the State Inspection for Control in the Sphere of Informatization and Telecommunications Golibsher Ziyayev was relieved of his post for erroneous and inconsistent actions, investigative actions will be carried out on the incident,” Mr. Asadov said in his Telegram channel.

He added that following the investigation, measures will be taken against all the leaders responsible for the incident.

Earlier today, these services were included in the register of violators of the rights of subjects of personal data, but now they are no longer in this list. At the same time, WeChat, VKontakte, Twitter, Skype and TikTok, which were added to the register in July, still remain in it.
