Economy Minister Nir Barkat held a secret meeting yesterday (Thursday) with key senior officials in the economy regarding their concerns about the legal reform. The meeting was attended by about 20 participants, including: Ido Neuberger, CEO of Valio Base; Dana Azrieli, Chairman of the Azrieli Group, and Eyal Hankan, CEO of the group; Eyal Ben Simon, CEO of Phoenix; Liora Ofer, the controlling owner of Ofer Investments; Eitan Bar Ze’ev, chairman of BIG; Tzachi Nachmias, controlling owner of Mega Or Holdings; Lilach Asher Topilsky, senior partner at Fimi; Natan Hatz, real estate developer and CEO of Aloni Hatz; Shahar Torgman, chairman of Beryl; Haim Gabriel, chairman of Tnuva; and Harel Wiesel, the controlling owner of the Fox Group. It should be noted that many of the business leaders present at the meeting were among the 150 businessmen, society, economics and academia who announced their support for negotiations according to the president’s outline and signed a document published in Globes.

The meeting was apparently organized by Eli Barkat, brother of the Minister of Economy and was held at Harel Wiesel’s house. The meeting, which lasted about two hours, was a vigorous meeting in which the senior officials expressed their fear and resentment of the legal reform. A source privy to the details of the meeting told Globes that Minister Barkat was attentive to what those present said, reassured those present and stated that there would be a compromise regarding the legal reform. However, on behalf of the minister, they denied Barkat’s statement about a compromise on the reform issue and said: “As part of his role as Minister of Economy and Industry, he meets with senior officials in the economy and high-tech and mainly listens to them and their needs.”
