The mayor of Pogoni, Kostas Kapsalis, raised issues concerning the development of the regional municipalities, and in particular issues of the Municipality of Pogoni, to the president of SYRIZA PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, who visited the War Museum in Kalpaki, as part of his three-day tour in Epirus.

Among other things, Mr. Kapsalis noted that there should be special care for border and mountain municipalities, which are currently treated by the central state in the same way as urban municipalities, while he also made reference to the extension of the border allowance to the security forces , the teachers etc. who serve in the Municipality of Pogoni. “Our constant request is the extension of the reduced VAT rate. and in the border and mountainous areas, so as to be an incentive for residents to stay in the villages. Unfortunately, instead of development incentives, we are led to the closure of public services and a degradation of the services offered by the state. Our citizens deserve recognition, because they perform an important role, staying in the border villages”, he pointed out characteristically and also underlined the need to strengthen the feeling of security by strengthening the security forces.
Mr. Kapsalis made a special reference to the issue of Civil Protection and insufficient funding from the state, with Mr. Kasselakis characterizing the specific issue as critical and serious.
At the same time, the Mayor of Pogoniou referred to the historicity of the area and the projects to highlight the important contribution of the Battle of Kalpaki to the later course of the war, as well as the projects in honor of the Heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country, inviting Mr. Kasselakis on the 27 October in “Kalpakia”. “We are in a historic area, where the Battle of Elia took place with consequences for all of Europe. The Monument that we are building with the support of the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Kostas Tassoulas, who secured the relevant funding, is dedicated to the Heroes who perished in the 40′ Epic. The Monument is part of an integrated design to highlight the historical sites and places, while it is our basic request that the official celebration of the Epic of ’40 be held here,” emphasized Mr. Kapsalis.
For his part, Mr. Kasselakis emphasized that he deserves a big thank you to all the residents of the area who protect Thermopylae and pledged to make every effort to resolve the issues submitted to him.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Kapsalis offered commemorative gifts to the official opposition leader, with Mr. Kasselakis being particularly excited by the local products.
