Incheon City Council Tackles Healthcare Workforce Challenges with Policy Seminar

A recent policy seminar hosted by the Incheon City Council’s ‘Health and Medical Manpower Revitalization Research Group’ focused on strategies to strengthen the region’s healthcare workforce and adapt to the needs of an aging population. The event, held on July 30th, brought together key stakeholders to discuss potential legislative changes and innovative care models.
Addressing a Growing Need for Skilled Medical Professionals
The Incheon City Council research group convened its third policy seminar in the Culture and Welfare Committee’s seminar room to address the critical issue of health and medical manpower revitalization. Participants included representatives from the National Assembly Research Group, as well as lawmakers Rep. Park Pan-soon, Rep. Park Chang-ho, and Rep. Lee Bong-rak, alongside officials from the ‘Medical Technician Group Policy Research Group’ and other relevant public departments. The group is comprised of organizations and experts within the medical technician policy research sphere.
Proposed Amendments and Integrated Care Initiatives
A central theme of the seminar revolved around proposed amendments to the Act on Medical Technicians, etc., as presented by Kyeong-soon Han, a professor of dental hygiene at Gachon University and a member of the Medical Technicians Association’s Policy Research Group. Professor Han also detailed the Incheon City Integrated Care Project, advocating for both policies as essential steps toward improving healthcare access and quality.
“As the role of specialized medical technicians expands, we can expect to improve national health services and establish a sustainable medical care system,” Professor Han stated.
The discussion also highlighted the increasing demand for regionally-based care driven by South Korea’s rapidly aging society. Professor Han further emphasized, “With the entry into a super-aging society, the demand for regional-based care is increasing. The role of a policy research group of medical technician organizations is necessary to build a regionally customized model.”
Collaborative Discussion and Future Outlook
Following each presentation, attendees engaged in detailed discussions, fostering a collaborative environment for problem-solving. Rep. Park expressed optimism about the seminar’s impact, stating, “It was a meaningful opportunity to collect diverse opinions, and I look forward to the future role of the medical technician group’s policy research group. As there were in-depth discussions at this policy seminar, I will do my best to improve the level of health care services.”
The seminar underscores the Incheon City Council’s commitment to proactively addressing the evolving challenges within the healthcare sector and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care for all residents.
