INDH in Youssoufia: Communication meeting around the promotion of maternal and child health

This meeting is part of the CPDH’s efforts to promote maternal and child health and raise awareness among the various stakeholders concerned about the importance of this issue in the context of building a bright future for the benefit of rising generations.

In a speech read on his behalf, the governor of the province of Youssoufia, Mr. Mohamed Salem Essabti, indicated that attention to the health of the mother and child represents a prelude to early childhood development, and an effective means and an essential lever to fight against socio-economic and territorial disparities.

“Investing in the human capital of the mother and child through health care, good nutrition and an appropriate environment that promotes early learning, allows the child to appropriate the mechanisms necessary to meet challenges of tomorrow and guarantee their success in academic and professional life, thus contributing effectively to the development of society,” he said.

Mr. Essabti recalled that Morocco has achieved, for decades, a certain number of achievements in numerous areas which contribute to the development of early childhood, in particular the field of health, through the generalization of vaccination against childhood diseases, improving child nutrition and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, highlighting the need for united efforts to address existing deficits.

Public authorities, elected officials, associative actors, the private sector and all stakeholders concerned are called upon to take up this challenge and make greater efforts to promote early childhood through the improvement and development of health of the mother and child, continued the governor, emphasizing the importance of guaranteeing convergence between the interventions of the different actors for greater efficiency, paying particular attention to the quality of services linked to maternal and child health, as well as the establishment of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms when developing projects.

As part of the new vision based on the development of human capital, Mr. Essabti stressed that the CPDH activated the tripartite agreement concluded between the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and UNICEF, aiming to establish a community health system, while providing health establishments with medical and paramedical equipment and materials, improving services at the level of Dour Al Oumouma (Maternity Homes) and working towards the implementation of Community Relay Persons (PRC), in addition to a certain number of important measures, such as the acquisition of ambulances and the construction and equipment of Dour Al Oumouma.

For his part, the Head of the Social Action Division (DAS) in the province of Youssoufia, Mr. Ibrahim Iddou, indicated, in a presentation on the results of the axis of support for mother’s health and children, that the activation of the community health system at the provincial level has given convincing results, particularly in light of the actions undertaken by the Community Relay Persons (RPC) in the area of ​​raising awareness of the importance of birth in a supervised environment, pregnancy monitoring and healthy eating.

The Provincial Coordinator of the Community Health System at the Provincial Delegation of Health and Social Protection in Youssoufia, Nadia Bahri, for her part, indicated that the PRC system program made it possible to meet the challenge of reducing disparities at the provincial level in terms of maternal and child health, noting that the indicators recorded in rural areas in terms of health programs have exceeded those achieved at the urban level in terms of vaccination, nutrition, monitoring of pregnancy and childbirth, and early detection of breast and cervical cancer.

During this meeting, which took place in the presence of heads of external services, authorities and representatives of associations and civil society actors working in the field of maternal and child health. child, the nutritional dimension of maternal and child health was also addressed.

Likewise, emphasis was placed on significantly improving the maternal and perinatal mortality index, thanks to the promotion of maternal health, particularly through the National Nutrition Strategy for pregnant women.
