London: Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair believes that by 2050, apart from America, India and China will also become superpowers of the world. Blair says that the emergence of China, India and America as superpowers will create a complex world system, global leaders will have to be prepared to overcome it. In an interview with The Straits Times, the 71-year-old veteran politician has made this prediction about India becoming a superpower.
Tony Blair said, ‘The world is going to change differently in the coming times and all countries will need to adapt to the multipolar world created by these three countries i.e. China, America and India. As a country, you have to decide where you fit in the multipolar world and who you side with.
Tony Blair has been Britain’s PM for 10 years
Tony Blair was the Prime Minister of Britain from 1997 to 2007. Tony said the current global scenario is much more complex than it was during his time in office. When I was PM, America was the main superpower but now the rise of China and India is giving a new shape to geopolitics. He said that this demands rethinking of alliances and diplomatic strategies. You have to build a strong alliance, which is able to talk to these three superpowers on an equal footing.
On the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and the danger of this conflict escalating, Blair said, ‘What is happening in Israel’s north has every possibility of escalating the conflict, which is a dangerous situation. Its solution is necessary. For this, there is only one viable path to peace between Israel and Palestine and that is the two-state theory.
Blair believes that China can play an important role in ending what is happening in West Asia. He said that China can play an important role in peace talks. China should ask its ally Iran to stop the conflict. Neither side is going to benefit from the escalation of the conflict.
