Some experts fear that its impact may also be seen on the India-China border.
Number of Indian workers will increase in Taiwan
The details related to this bilateral agreement signed on February 16 have not been made public yet. But it is believed that this will significantly increase the number of Indian workers in Taiwan. Talks on sending workers were going on since 2020
According to Taiwan’s Labor Ministry, an MoU has been signed between their and India’s embassies. However, details related to its implementation have not been made public yet. Taiwan has also not disclosed the specifics of the labor agreement, although it is being said that this agreement has been reached after extensive negotiations. According to the CNA report, talks on labor cooperation between the two countries had started in 2020, but were interrupted due to the pandemic. Talks resumed after the pandemic, with the key agenda of the agreement largely finalized by September.
Why does Taiwan need workers?
Taiwan is famous for the production of semiconductors all over the world. But, this country is struggling with increasing population. Presently shelters around 700000 migrant workers. These workers are mainly citizens of Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand. Many of these workers work as construction laborers or as caregivers for the elderly. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor, demand for labor in sectors such as manufacturing, construction and agriculture is growing rapidly in the country. Local workers are unable to meet this demand, so they have to call workers from other countries.
