The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was held for the first time in 1996-97. India won the title in the first two seasons. Australia won the next, but India regained the upper hand for the fourth time. After Australia last won the title in 2014-15, India won the last four consecutive series in 2016-17, 2018-19, 2021-21 and 2022-23 seasons.
