New Delhi: India’s opening batsman KL Rahul has paid for the treatment of an 11-year-old cricketer who was suffering from a rare blood disorder. Varad Nalavade, a budding fifth-grade cricketer from Mumbai, has been diagnosed with a rare disease called low platelet count. After several treatments, none of them worked, and the doctors decided to perform a bone marrow transplant.

But the surgery would have cost around Rs 35 lakh. For this, Varad’s parents started crowdfunding through an NGO. But despite their best efforts, they managed to raise only Rs 4 lakh. After learning about Varad through his friends, Rahul contacted the NGO and informed them that he would pay the remaining Rs 31 lakh for the surgery.

Hospital officials said the surgery was successful and Varad was recovering. KL Rahul said that he was happy that his small contribution helped Varad’s treatment and wished Varad a speedy recovery and conquered his dreams.
