India’s solar power generation capacity has increased by 20.8 GW by 2023.

According to a report released by market research firm Mogham Capital:

The country’s solar power generation capacity has increased to 20.8 GW by the year 2023. Also, solar cell production capacity increased by 3.2 GW during the year.

As of December 2023, the country’s total solar power generation capacity is 64.5 GW and solar cell generation capacity is 5.8 GW.

About 60 percent of the total installed solar power generation capacity during the assessment year was installed with M10 and M12 type panels.

By 2026, India’s solar power generation capacity is expected to exceed 150 GW. Also, solar cell production capacity is expected to reach 75 GW by the year.

Gujarat is leading in solar power generation capacity of the country. The state accounts for 46.1 percent of the total manufacturing capacity.

Rajasthan is at 2nd and 3rd position with 9.3 percent share and Tamil Nadu 7.6 percent share in solar power generation capacity.

As of December 2023, Telangana contributes 39 percent of the country’s solar cell manufacturing capacity.

In this category, Gujarat is second with 34.7 percent share and Himachal Pradesh is third with 13.9 percent share, the report said.
