IndiGo and MIAL fined for passengers’ runway dining incident at Mumbai airport

Chennai: A fine of Rs 1.5 crore has been imposed on IndiGo as the incident went viral after passengers sat near the runway and ate food at the aircraft stand. The penalty was imposed by the Air Safety Authority and the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

Not only IndiGo, but MIAL, which maintains the Mumbai airport, has also been fined in this matter. A total penalty of Rs.90 lakh has been imposed on MIAL. The Aviation Safety Authority has imposed a fine of Rs 1.20 crore on IndiGo. The remaining Rs 30 lakh fine has been imposed by the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

What happened? The passengers of Indigo flight 6E 2195, which was stopped at the Mumbai airport recently, rushed out of it. At landing speed, they sat on the tarmac near the runway and ate. The video of the scene went viral on the internet. In this context, Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport and IndiGo have apologized for this.
