A flight of the Indian airline “IndiGo” turned into a violent incident following a 13-hour delay caused by severe weather conditions. Documentation of the incident was filmed by one of the passengers and went viral with over 4.6 million views on the social network X (formerly Twitter), with surfers defending the pilot and harshly criticizing the aggressive passenger.

The pilot, Anap Kumar, informed the passengers about the weather conditions and the expected delay. The message, it seems, did not go down well with one of the passengers, identified as Sahil Katara. In the video, the passenger – wearing a yellow hoodie – is seen running down the aisle of the plane and punching the pilot in the face while the passengers scream in shock. “If you want to fly, then fly the plane!”, Katara yelled at Kumar, who was seen backing away towards the cockpit. “Otherwise, open the door.”

At this point, one of the flight attendants intervened and separated the two, while a passenger wearing a light blue shirt grabbed Katara and brought him back to his seat. The upset flight attendant shouted at him: “What you did is wrong! You can’t behave like that.” In another separate video, the passenger is seen being escorted off the plane by armed police, before apologizing to the pilot on camera. Kumar and the airline employees filed a police complaint against Katara, who was arrested by the Delhi Police.

The surfers who watched the documentation of the incident online, strongly condemned the attacking passenger. “Frustration does not give a passenger the right to physically attack a crew member,” wrote one surfer. Another commented: “This lunatic should be blacklisted for at least three years.” However, there were those who also pointed the finger of blame at the “Indigo” company for what they called a “blatant lack of professionalism” that preceded the event. Many noted the fact that the pilot did not explain the reason for the delay, but admitted that this did not justify the attack.
