Indigo Flight Status: Delays & Cancellations – Bangalore, Mumbai & More

IndiGo Flight Cancellations Trigger Government Intervention, Passenger Stranding

Meta Description: Thousands of passengers are stranded as IndiGo cancels over 400 flights. The government has capped ticket prices and ordered full refunds.

Thousands of passengers faced significant disruptions this weekend as India’s largest domestic carrier, IndiGo, cancelled over 400 flights from four major airports on Saturday, December 6. The widespread cancellations prompted swift action from the central government, including a cap on ticket prices and a mandate for full passenger refunds.

Flight Duty Time Limitations Blamed for Disruptions

The crisis stems from new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms, which authorities are currently observing. According to reports, these norms triggered the cascade of flight cancellations. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the government has temporarily kept the new orders “in abeyance” while assessing the situation.

Government Orders Refunds and Baggage Retrieval

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed IndiGo to clear all pending passenger refunds by 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 7. Furthermore, the ministry ordered the airline to locate and deliver any baggage separated from passengers due to the cancellations or delays to their designated addresses within the next 48 hours.

Ticket Prices Soar Amidst Limited Availability

The sudden reduction in available flights led to a dramatic surge in airfares. On Friday, December 5, the only Mumbai-Delhi flight available was priced at Rs 51,860 per passenger, while the sole Delhi-Mumbai flight was offered at Rs 48,972. The government’s decision to cap ticket prices is a direct response to prevent further exploitation of stranded travelers.

Probe Launched, Accountability Promised

A high-level probe has been launched into the IndiGo flight cancellations. Naidu warned that those responsible for the “fiasco” will be held accountable, stating they will “pay for it.” Authorities are prioritizing the restoration of normal civil aviation services.

Operations Gradually Returning to Normal at Delhi Airport

As of this report, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has issued a statement indicating that IndiGo operations are “gradually returning to normal.” However, the impact on passengers across the country remains significant, with thousands still facing delays and uncertainty.

The situation remains fluid, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
