Inditex achieves record sales and profits in the first year of Marta Ortega

Inditex has recovered in 2022 the numbers from before the pandemic and has even gone further. The multinational owner of firms such as Zara, Pull & Bear or Massimo Dutti entered 32,569 million euros from sales, 17% more than in the 2021 financial year and 15% more than in 2019, before the covid crisis broke out, which caused its revenue volume to fall sharply due to the closure of stores around the world.

But those years are now water in the past and on the first anniversary of Marta Ortega leading the company as non-executive president after the departure of Pablo Isla, the company has presented the best results in its history. Net profit also shoots up to 4,130 million euros, 27% more than the previous year and 15% more than in 2019, according to the accounts delivered to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) this Wednesday.

And all of this without the contribution of the Russian market, which represented 8.5% of the group’s net operating result (Ebit) but which, after the outbreak of the war, Inditex decided to suspend its activity and sell its more than 500 stores to the Daher group. .

The multinational, which will raise the dividend by 29% to 1.20 euros per share, indicates that sales grew in all its markets, both in physical stores and online. A channel that the company has been promoting for a few years until reaching 7,806 million euros in 2022, a record figure that remains close to 30% of the total turnover that the group founded by Amancio Ortega had as its objective for 2024 in Internet sales.

Dividends also record

With these results, the board of directors chaired by Marta Ortega will propose to the General Shareholders’ Meeting a 29% increase in the dividend for the year 2022 up to 1.20 euros per share, made up of an ordinary dividend of 0.796 euros and an extraordinary dividend of 0.404 euros per share. The dividend will be made up of two equal payments, the first on May 2 with a payment of 0.60 euros per share, and the second on November 2 with a payment of another 0.60 euros per share.
