Infectionist told when to wait for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic is unlikely to end in 2022, says Sergei Voznesensky, associate professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN). According to him, a significant improvement in the situation can be expected in 2023.

“To end the pandemic, in addition to the medical problem, financial, economic and geopolitical issues must be stabilized,” the specialist said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, vaccination remains the most reliable way to protect against coronavirus, Voznesensky recalled.

The pandemic has been going on for almost two years. As Melita Vujnovich, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia, said earlier in an interview with RG, now the world is “in the midst of a pandemic,” and this can change only when 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated. The sooner this happens, the less likely new strains of COVID-19 will emerge.
