The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the State fell one point in December and closed the year with a annual variation of 5.8%, the lowest value since November 2021. According to the advanced indicator published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the drop is explained by the moderation in electricity and fuel prices. In contrast, core inflation – which excludes unprocessed food and energy – has climbed six tenthsup to 6.9%, due to the increase in the price of the shopping basket, and has accumulated year-on-year increases since April 2021. As for the monthly variation, the CPI has registered a rise of three tenths compared to november

As for the annual variation, the data advanced this Friday shows that inflation is accumulating year-on-year declines since July, when it reached the record rate of 10.8% in the State. However, if the data advanced by the INE is confirmed, the average CPI in 2022 will be 8.4%.

As for the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (IPCA), one was registered in December annual variation of 5.6%, more than a point lower than that registered in the previous month. In relation to the monthly variation, the IPCA has risen by a tenth.

The final annual variation of the CPI corresponding to the month of December will be known in mid-January. Then the INE will also publish data by autonomous communities. In November, the annual variation in the CPI stood at 6.8% in Spain and 6.4% in Catalonia.
