Infuriated by the actions of BJP workers at the launch of the Vande Bharat train service, Mamata Banerjee sat down with the audience instead of sitting on the stage of the function, sparking controversy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat train service from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal today (December 30). Inaugurating the project, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the New Jalpaiguri Railway Rehabilitation Project. He said that the railway station routes in the eastern and western parts of the country can greatly benefit the economic development of the country.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee participated in the event. Angered by BJP workers who had gathered at the railway station and raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram, he sat with the audience instead of sitting on the function platform, causing controversy.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose tried to pacify Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee but to no avail.

He then spoke to the audience from his seat as the Prime Minister joined via video. Speaking at that time, he said, “I express my deepest condolences on the death of your mother, and your mother is not only a mother to you, but also to us.”

It is noteworthy that Mamata Banerjee did not sit on the stage of the ceremony but sat with the audience which caused quite a stir.
