An inguinal hernia is a lump that forms under the skin in the groin, between the abdomen and the root of the thigh. It forms when the intestine exits the abdominal cavity. Present from birth in 2 to 5% of children, it can also appear in adults following repeated efforts, being overweight, a chronic cough or even constipation. More common among men than among women, nearly one in three will undergo surgery during their lifetime for this condition.
