♦ L’Innocence ***

de Hirokazu Kore-eda

Japanese film, 2:06

Victim of mistreatment by one of his teachers, according to his mother, or on the contrary suspected of harassing the Turkish head of his class by a teacher, Minato has recently had a worrying attitude. Against the backdrop of a fire that devastated a building in the city center, Hirokazu Kore-eda gives us in his latest feature film an intimate drama where appearances prove deceptive.

In a spiral of social conventions, hypocrisy and honor, L’Innocence delicately depicts the cruelty of childhood and the rigidity of Japanese society. All served by a virtuoso staging, which brings this gem to a rare degree of perfection.

♦ Mon ami robot ***

by Pablo Berger

Spanish and French animated film, 1h42

From the age of 8

In Blade Runner, novelist Philip K. Dick wondered if androids dream of electric sheep. Pablo Berger wonders if anthropomorphic dogs dream of pet robots. In New York in the 1990s populated by dogs with (too?) human behavior, Dog, a single dog, gets a pet droid. Between the robot and its owner, the current passes immediately. Dog is nevertheless forced to abandon his companion, paralyzed by a grain of sand, on a beach closed to the public until the following summer.

For a long year, the two friends will only dream of one thing: meeting again. Melancholy, funny and poetic, this animated film says a lot about solitude and friendship, standing the test of distance and time.

♦ A matter of honor **

by Vincent Perez

French film, 1h40

From his passion for fencing, Vincent Perez decided to make a film about it. At the heart of the intrigue, which takes place at the end of the 19th century against a backdrop of recently acquired press freedom, a duel between Clément Lacaze, who reigns over the weapons room of the Petit Journal, and Colonel Berchère, a former military. In this frankly virilist atmosphere, the female point of view of the (real) character of the suffragette Marie-Rose Astié de Valsayre is welcome to underline the absurdity of these “affairs of honor”.

A period film with a soberly mastered reconstruction which recalls the heyday of the swashbuckling films of our childhood, but unfortunately neglects the psychology of its characters.

♦ 5 hectares *

by Émilie Deleuze

French film, 1h34

Director of a biology unit at the Pasteur Institute, Franck bought a farm in Limousin and the five hectares surrounding it with his wife. A haven of peace, until Paul, the neighbor, arrives with his tractor and decides to graze his cows on Franck’s land. In response, the “Parisian” decides to buy himself a tractor.

The scenario is reminiscent of A True Story by David Lynch (1999). But where Lynch moved the viewer in the progression of his antihero, Lambert Wilson fails to make his character sympathetic, nor to make his gentle madness credible.
