Kochi: Actor Mohan Lal and director Major Ravi visited the country’s indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant Territorial Army Honorary Lieutenant Colonel. The two interacted with Shipyard officials who are the ship’s construction partners and sailors including the ship’s commanding officer Commodore Vidyadhar Harke.
Both were asked in detail about the features and equipment of the aircraft carrier. The visit was after a special invitation by the Kochi Shipyard and the Navy. The aircraft carrier, which was completed at the Kochi Shipyard, was officially handed over to the Navy the other day.
It is the largest warship that India has built till date. It is only a matter of days before Vikrantha Viriyam becomes the shield of India’s maritime borders and becomes the herald of Indian naval prowess. The aircraft carrier, known as IAC-1 in Navy records, will officially become INS Vikrant when Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicates it to the nation sometime after the nation’s 75th Independence Day.
With this, India will reach the proud achievement of being the sixth country in the world capable of designing and manufacturing aircraft carriers indigenously. Kochi’s own shipyard will also add its name to the achievement of being the first shipyard in the country to build an aircraft carrier.
