In the new episode of “Le Iene presents: Inside”, entitled “San Patrignano: hell or paradise?”, a very broad scenario is offered on the world of drug addiction, through a journey that lasted more than six years within one of the communities of largest recovery in the world: San Patrignano. Founded in 1978 by Vincenzo Muccioli, the community of San Patrignano represents a point of reference in the Italian panorama for the recovery of drug addicts. Located in Coriano, in the province of Rimini, this structure saw the light with the intention of providing free assistance to anyone who needed it, without distinctions of any kind. Over the years, San Patrignano has welcomed an ever-increasing number of guests, offering them a recovery path that has also included the aspect of professional training. The community has received important recognition, both nationally and internationally, and has attracted the attention of several prominent personalities, including two Presidents of the Italian Republic. Although the history of San Patrignano is not without controversy: over the years, controversies and debates have emerged regarding the methods used within the structure, which have also led to judicial trials.

In Thursday evening’s special, the hyena Cizco and the author Angelo De Luca ask fundamental questions: how do you end up as slaves to drugs? What are the steps to get out of it? And, above all, how do you find a normal life after such an overwhelming experience? To find answers, we will listen to the touching testimonies of those who have lived and are living this recovery journey. One of these is that of Karima, a courageous woman who fought against heroin, thus separating herself from her two young daughters. Today, Karima finds support and solidarity in the laundry department of San Patrignano, where she shares her experiences with other travel companions.

Among those who have faced the insidious road to recovery from drug addiction, we find Gabriele, who completed his recovery journey in 2018 and confessed to fearing loneliness in returning to normal life: today he is happily engaged with Lisa, who is she is in love with him after seeing him in a television report; and we will listen to the stories of many other young people, committed with optimism towards a better tomorrow. But not all stories can boast a happy ending: to better explore the topic, the Italia 1 program also delves into the stories of those who have made choices of self-destruction: events explored in their rawness, with protagonists people defeated by an inexorable evil .
