It is worth seeing or seeing again, expending for once a form of civil and non-fantasy adrenaline, «Fortapàsc» by Marco Risi, a courageous denunciation film, one of the few and the last (and we are in 2009!) to shadow the tragedies of history, in the wake of the great critical realism cinema of Francesco Rosi, Giordana and others. Risi, already the author of two exciting titles, “Mery forever” (juvenile prison) and “Muro di gomma” (on the Ustica investigation), continues, with the help of the screenwriter-reporter Andrea Purgatori, to tell our worst Italian .
It is the story, entirely true, lived and suffered, of the young reporter, abusive practitioner at the “Mattino” of Naples, Giancarlo Siani who, strengthened by the hopeful enthusiasm of his 26 years that makes one feel immortal, begins to investigate, with the help by a photographer friend, on the relationship between politics and the Camorra for the division of post-earthquake contributions: the exemplary and highly anticipated punishment is around the corner. Everyone advised him against being stubborn, first his boss Ernesto Mahieux (someone took it badly, asking for the film to be withdrawn and therefore reiterating its need) and also his fiancée Valentina Lodovini who insists on the value of feelings, while the magistrates they pass the ball.
The film-diary recounts the last four months of the life and struggle of the journalist Siani, killed on 23 September 1985: he remains a hero of the never-ending story of our national underworld. A film of denunciation but also on the passion of an investigation and therefore on the profession of man, to which the actors of a very rich cast with Massimiliano Gallo, Riondino before Montalbano, Imparato, Carpentieri make essential contributions. Fortunately, the good and late protagonist is not a para-television divetto but Libero De Rienzo, who grabs the character with strength and truth.
