The Panevėžys district court announced the verdict in the case of an official affair. The former employee of one of the municipal departments, who established a sinful relationship with a co-worker, lost her mind so much that she started following her ex-lover with her husband when she was caught by her husband.
And since the case was not heard in public, the prosecutor did not reveal why the defendants had decided to listen to strangers’ conversations.
“In short, it’s a matter of feelings. It was not a career aspiration, property matters or a desire to know any municipal information. When there is a relationship between several people, the feelings can be various – love, hate, and the desire for revenge. These feelings have been described in ancient tragedies and comedies,” said Lina Lomonienė, chief prosecutor of Panevėžys district court.
In various places of the municipality, listening devices were hidden and phone conversations of the ex-lover and colleagues were recorded.
A married couple – Justina and Kęstutis Aleknos from Panevėžys – appeared on the bench.
“From the data collected in the case, it is clear that the organizer and the main mastermind of this matter was precisely the convict, who also involved her husband in this activity,” said prosecutor L. Lomonienė.
The couple was punished for illegally collecting information about a person’s private life and illegally installing or using special equipment to collect information while acting in a group of accomplices.

10 people were recognized as victims in this case. Seven of them are former and current employees of the municipality, as well as the woman’s 43-year-old ex-lover with his current wife, who is the same age, and another friend of the couple.
Employees interviewed in court said they were shocked to learn of the recorded private conversations with relatives and friends. After all, it was not uncommon to talk about health, illnesses, and other personal matters.
The whole story of the love triangle lasted about half a year.
When both of them ended the relationship, the ex-lover still did not find peace with his beloved – his ex-girlfriend began to attack with messages and calls.
K. Alekna blamed his wife’s colleague for their affair. And his wife, J. Aleknienė, continued to persistently show attention to her co-worker. Feeling persecuted by the woman, he even wrote a complaint to the municipal administration.
More than 60 audio recordings, as well as photos of tracked people and other illegally collected information, were found after the house of the suspects was searched.
