The day after the update allowing the iPhone12 to be put back on sale in France, Apple said on Saturday that it had identified some problems likely to make the new iPhones hotter than expected, in particular a bug in the iOS 17 software which will be corrected in a next update.

Early users have complained that the new phones, sold between 969 and 1,479 euros for several days, heat up a lot. The Apple brand claims that the device may seem warmer during the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device due to increased background activity.” The Californian firm believes that its iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not suffer from overheating due to their design; on the contrary, the new titanium shells improve, according to it, heat dissipation compared to previous stainless steel models.

“Another issue is some recent third-party app updates that are causing system overhead,” Apple acknowledged, adding that it is working with app developers on fixes that are now being rolled out. The next iOS 17 bug fix, the timing of which was not given, will not reduce performance when dealing with iPhone temperature, the tech giant promises.

Third-party apps causing the problem include, according to Apple, the game Asphalt 9, the Instagram app, and Uber. Instagram said it fixed the problem with its application a few days ago, Wednesday September 27.

This is a hard blow for the brand, which has been recording a sharp decline in its turnover for months.
