Iran announced the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of Mehsa Amini’s death

The Islamic Republic continues to rage after the death of Mehsa Amini, a 22-year-old young woman from Kurdistan, who was arrested by the “morality police” because she wore a hijab in a “sloppy manner, and was allegedly beaten to death. As a result, Iran announced today (Tuesday) that they would open an investigation to check the circumstances of the young woman’s death.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abd Allahian, tweeted on his Twitter account and wrote that “We have opened an investigation into the tragic death of Mahsa. As the president said, for Iran, human rights are valuable, unlike those who see them as a tool against their rivals.” The tweet was written after it was claimed a few hours after her death that she died of a heart attack.

As mentioned, Iran continues to storm following the unfortunate death of the young woman. Last night, the third day of unrest across the country was marked with demonstrations in many places, including in the capital, Tehran. According to the Washington Post report, two people were killed while security forces fired on protesters in the city of Saqez, two more died in the town of Divendra and another person was killed in the Dehgolan.

US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, commented on the incident and said that “We are concerned about the death of Amini, who was reportedly beaten by the morality police while in custody. We will continue our efforts to compel the Iranian authorities to show responsibility for these human rights violations.” The US Special Representative for Iranian Affairs, Robert Malleysaid that he was shocked by Amini’s death, and emphasized that “those responsible for her death must be held accountable, and Iran must put an end to violence against women for exercising their legal rights.”
