Iran: Iraqi government and people must decide on US forces withdrawal

/ Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani confirmed on Monday that Iranian-Iraqi relations are at their best and the two governments have a common will in the economic and commercial fields, calling on the Iraqi government and people to “make a decision regarding the presence of US forces.”

The Iranian Mehr News Agency, in a report translated by Agency, quoted Kanaani as saying in a press conference held at the Iranian Media Exhibition in (Imam Khomeini Mosque) regarding Iranian-Iraqi relations that “relations between the two countries are at their best, and the future prospects for the two countries are full of hope and promising,” noting that “the two governments have a common will in the economic and commercial fields.”

Kanaani added that “Iraq and Iran have a common will in the field of security on the common borders, and the joint committees are active in implementing the security agreement between the two countries,” stressing that “the full implementation of the texts of this document is considered in the direction of achieving the interests of the two countries and enhancing security and stability in the two countries.”

Kanaani noted that “his country does not consider the presence of foreign forces in Iraq to be helpful for stability in this country,” noting that “Iran fundamentally opposes the presence of foreign forces in the region.”

Regarding the presence of US forces in Iraq, Kanaani explained that “the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people must make a decision in this regard.”
