The presence of the US military in Iraq undermines stability and security in the region. This opinion was expressed by Iranian Foreign Ministry representative Nasser Kanani Chafi, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“We are convinced that the presence of these forces (US Armed Forces – approx.) has never contributed to security. Moreover, we believe that their long-term presence undermines stability and security in the region,” IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.
“The government and people of Iraq must make a decision regarding American troops in the country,” although their position is very clear, the Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized. He noted that Tehran is fundamentally opposed to the presence of foreign armed forces in the region.
On February 8, the official representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Yahya Rasul, called the forces of the international alliance led by the United States a destabilizing factor in the republic. He said that coalition forces are forcing the country’s authorities to seriously consider the issue of an early termination of its mission in the country. According to Rasul, the attack with the help of an American drone on a residential area of Baghdad indicates that the coalition “does not care about the lives of civilians and international laws.”
