And they have done it in a day organized by the Foundation for Health Research (Fuinsa) together with the organization Invesalud, in which political representatives, such as the second vice president of Congress, Ana Pastor (PP)They have made a diagnosis of the health system and have analyzed why the pact is necessary.

Precisely Pastor has been in charge of closing the day, which has had as its title “Health: A health pact? A vision of the past for a creation of the future”. The former Minister of Health has opined that the agreement is possible.

And it is, he has considered, because health is a matter in which you have to renounce those things with which you disagree to go “to the essentials.” All this for the good of the health system, whose “seams” have opened the pandemic.

A system, he has said, that although “it is magnificent” it has “serious problems”, which if they are not resolved, it will be “at risk”. And it is going through a difficult situation because it was devised at a time when the pathologies of citizens were different from those of now. With the high life expectancy, the patients are multipathological and chronic.

“We reached the elderly but not in good health conditions”, said Pastor. For this reason, he has urged us to reflect, among other things, on what part of the health budget should be allocated, to begin with, to prevention, to primary care because it is “little”.

The future of the healthcare system

Before Pastor, the regional deputies from Madrid Carlos Morenoof the PSOEy Marta Marbánof the PPwho have analyzed the future of the system and have verified the need to reach agreements.

Moreno has indicated that his party presented in the Madrid parliament a pact for health “that was not attended to” and, among other things, addressed primary care, human resources and public health.

“A great agreement would be desirable but I see it as difficult. We are all for improving healthcare but the tools we use are different”, Moreno said. However, the regional deputy has opted to see what unites the political forces to improve the SNS.

Marbán, for his part, wanted to have a “positive” look towards the future, so that if an agreement cannot be reached, important agreements can be reached. Consensus that he sees as necessary to improve the health system, something, he has said, that the autonomous communities are also demanding.

“The communities are going to look for their solutions if there is no national umbrella,” said the Madrid deputy.

a long shot

Prior to these interventions, the participation the one who was Secretary General of Health between 2005 and 2011, Jose Martinez Olmosy the national deputy for IU between 2000 and 2015 Gaspar Llamazares.

Both have also opted for a health pact although they have recognized that at this time it is a distant possibility.

Martínez Olmos has recalled how on two occasions, once when he was Secretary of Health, and another when he was in opposition, as a socialist spokesman for Health, he tried to forge a health pact for the benefit of the system but, in the end, it was not possible.

For Llamazares now the political adversary is considered “an enemy” which increases the difficulties to negotiate. In addition, he has said, during the pandemic “essential pillars of the system such as the capacity of the State to respond to an emergency have been called into question” and it has been done “in a belligerent manner”, demonstrating the polarization that, in his opinion, exists .
