Is heating with wood climate-neutral?

by time news

The forest is better protected and should spread. According to the European Parliament, this also places a limit on the use of fuel as fuel.

Oil is harmful, gas and electricity are expensive. That’s why many households are just switching back to wood stoves. The understanding of a debate in the EU about the protection of European forests and the question of whether wood can continue to be promoted as a renewable energy source is therefore not particularly great among forest managers and national politicians. For them, the debate about whether heating with wood is climate-neutral comes at an inopportune time. After all, forests store greenhouse gases and contribute to climate protection.

MEPs nevertheless put the issue on the agenda. On Tuesday, they voted to protect forests better as part of the EU Forest Strategy and to plant three billion new trees. This Tuesday, as part of the Renewable Energy Directive, a decision is to be taken as to whether and in what quantities wood can still be used as a fuel.
