Thiruvananthapuram: Public Works Department Minister Muhammad Riaz said that the contractors are fully responsible for potholes on the national highway. The Public Works Department has taken strong action against such contractors. The center should do the same. Mohammad Riaz asked in Thiruvananthapuram why the Center is afraid of contractors.
The PWD cannot intervene in the problem of the national highway. Doing so would violate federal principles. Such contractors should be blacklisted. Must be ready to release with number and name. Muhammad Riaz also asked why the center is hiding such people.
Minister Muhammad Riaz was reacting to the death of a scooter rider who fell into a pothole on the national highway in Angamaly. Police have registered a case in the incident. The National Highway Authority and the contractor will be accused in the case.
The accident took place near Nedumbassery school on Angamaly-Edappally road around 11 pm. Hashim, a native of Paravur, died. After the scooter fell into the ditch, the lorry ran over the body of Hashim, who fell on the opposite side of the road. The National Highway authorities closed the pothole on the road at night. The deceased Hashim was a hotel worker.
The pothole on the road has not been covered for months. Many people have met with accidents while traveling on two-wheelers in this area. Locals also alleged that the accidents are frequent due to improper filling of potholes.
