It has been reported that Russia, which is facing severe sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine, plans to end the war. As Russia celebrates its war victory on May 9 each year, President Vladimir Putin now plans to end the war in Ukraine on the same day.

Russia has been celebrating World War II’s victory over Hitler’s Nazi forces every year.

Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine on February 24 in protest of joining the US – led NATO military force. The people of that country are taking refuge in neighboring countries to protect themselves from the onslaught of war. So far more than 30 lakh people have taken refuge in countries including Poland, Romania and Hungary.

Missile strikes continue in the capital, Kiev, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kherson, Sumi, and Liv. Ukraine’s largest buildings, apartments, hospitals, schools and educational institutions have been damaged by the war. In addition, various military bases in Ukraine have been hit by a series of attacks by Russian troops. Most were destroyed by Russian artillery fire.

The United States and European countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. It is reported that 400 companies have so far suspended trade with Russia. Nevertheless, Russia continues to launch an aggressive offensive against Ukraine. The Swiss banking system, which allows Russian banks to transact with international banks, has been banned. Social media companies, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, have shut down operations in Russia. The United States has banned the import of crude oil.

The continuing war has caused great casualties in both countries. Meanwhile, the UN Human Rights Council estimates that 2,788 people have died so far, of which 1,081 are soldiers. A total of 1707 people have been injured so far. 135 children were killed in the war. The European Union (EU) has announced a 34 billion package to help Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s attorney general has said 136 children have been killed so far in the war. Another 199 children were reported injured. So far 64 children have been killed in the capital Kiev and 50 in the Donetsk region.
