The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that their soldiers had killed a large number of Hamas fighters in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, BTA reported, according to DPA.

The IDF announced this morning that command centers, military facilities and movement launchers were attacked. The Israeli military says dozens of Hamas fighters have been killed in the southern city of Khan Younis, which has seen fierce fighting in recent weeks. Several fighters have been killed in the central part of the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip. DPA says it cannot confirm the information announced by the IDF through an independent source.

The Israeli operation in Gaza was triggered by the unprecedented attack carried out by the militants of the Palestinian Islamist organization “Hamas” and other extremist groups on October 7.

In response, Israel launched massive air strikes on Gaza and launched a ground operation that forced more than half of the local population to seek refuge from the fighting in the town of Rafah on the southernmost tip of the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli armed forces are planning an advance on the city on the orders of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with civilians to be evacuated. Concerns are growing that, despite everything, there will be huge civilian casualties.
