Jerusalem – Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may return strongly to the position of Prime Minister of Israel. Reports suggest that Netanyahu’s party may be able to win a large majority in parliament with the help of its allies when partial results of the vote count are released. After counting 86% of the votes cast, Netanyahu’s coalition won 65 out of 120 seats.
“We are on our way to a great victory,” Netanyahu told his supporters in Jerusalem. Netanyahu can rule with the support of the far-right Religious Zionism Party. Senior leaders of the Religious Zionism Party such as Ben-Gvir, Bezalel Smotrich and others have made anti-Arab remarks.
Although there may be some changes in the counting of postal votes, 73-year-old Netanyahu is almost certain to become prime minister. The left-wing Meretz Party, which raised a strong challenge, could not prevent Netanyahu’s victory. Exit polls also predicted victory for Netanyahu’s side.
