Israel put pressure on Guinea-Bissau to remove its flags from ships intending to sail to the Gaza Strip as part of the Freedom Flotilla 2 action. This led to repeated delays in the flotilla’s departure from the Turkish port.
The Acadenz encountered an obstacle early in its voyage due to legislation requiring every ship entering international waters to fly the flag of the state under which it was registered. A cargo ship registered in Guinea and transporting 5 thousand tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip was forced to return to a Turkish port.
The last delay was too much for the flotilla organizers. They had to advise participants from 30 countries to return home and wait for the next attempt.
“We have decided that we will not be able to obtain a new registration in the near future. This is very sad, but we will be forced to ask the flotilla participants to return home,” said one of the organizers of Freedom Flotilla 2.
Let us recall that Turkey planned to equip two passenger ships and one cargo ship loaded with humanitarian aid to “break the blockade in the Gaza Strip.” According to plans, there were to be about 1,200 people on board, including activists, journalists, Turkish parliamentarians and public figures.
In addition, Cursor has already reported that the Turkish Ministry of Trade announced the introduction of export restrictions for Israel. According to the department, Ankara will limit exports to Israel to approximately 54 categories of goods. It is noted that these measures will remain in effect until Jerusalem announces a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
