In April, Israelis increased their credit card spending by 15 percent year-on-year, according to data provided, reaching a new record.
This was reported by the SHEBA company, which specializes in processing transactions using bank cards.
Last month, citizens spent 41.2 billion shekels, which is 15 percent more than in 2023. Average daily expenses amounted to NIS 1.374 billion, up 0.4 percent from March 2024. But spending on physical purchases increased by 5.4 percent, reaching a new record high of NIS 641 million.
The company’s deputy director, Tali Holenberg, emphasized that, most likely, Israelis’ spending on cards has increased due to rising consumer prices recently, as well as the stabilization of the country’s economy, since many citizens did not go abroad on vacation this year due to the military actions, thereby stimulating domestic consumerism.
