Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, today promised a response to Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel. He said this in a speech to military personnel at a military base affected by an Iranian strike, reported AFP.
Israel will retaliate against the firing of so many rockets, cruise missiles and drones on the territory of the Israeli state,” General Halevi said during a visit to the Nevatim base in southern Israel.
The military released a short video showing a shallow crater along a wall caused by an Iranian missile landing on the military base.
Iran fired hundreds of rockets and drones overnight at Israel in response to a deadly attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus attributed to Israel. Almost all the missiles and drones were intercepted by Israeli air defense with the help of the US, but also of other allied countries, such as France, Great Britain, as well as Jordan and Saudi Arabia, France Press recalls.
The operation to intercept the missiles and drones was called “Iron Shield” and was carried out in a coalition, Israel said, BTA reports.
These same countries, led by the US, are now concerned about the risk of regional escalation in the event of a direct Israeli response on Iranian soil. Washington has already made it clear that it will not participate in such a response.
