ISV of imported cars is illegal and may have to be returned – Automotive

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) considered that charging Vehicle Tax (ISV) on imported cars violates European rules, according to the Public. At issue is the change to the law, in 2021 as proposed by the Government and PS, which became apply different tables in the collection of this tax.

Now, according to the same newspaper, anyone who imported a vehicle from another European Union country after January 1st will be able to recover part of the money. But to do so, You will have to complain to the tax authorities or go to court. At stake will be almost 280 thousand passenger cars.

According to the order cited by Público, the Court of Justice of the European Union declared “that the discount on cylinder capacity and the environmental part must be the same for second-hand cars imported from another European Union country”.
