RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan received the participants of the European University Sports Association presidency session held in Armenia on October 24-25, led by the president of the association Adam Roshek. This was reported by the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Welcoming the guests, RA Minister of Education, President of the University Sports Federation of Armenia A. Ashotyan emphasized that Armenia joined the European University Sports Association just one year ago and considers it important from a cognitive point of view to hold the session of the association in Armenia, as it is an additional opportunity for the development of cooperation between university sports and member countries. The minister noted that after the accession, Armenia took an active part in student sports games, and last year the Armenian delegation returned from the Kazan Universiade with 10 medals. President of the European University Sports Association Adam Roshek, thanking the minister for the reception, noted that although Armenia is one of the youngest members of the European University Sports Association, it stands out for its great activity, which inspires confidence that it will have promising beginnings.
RA Minister of Internal Affairs A. Ashotyan proposed to hold the European University Sports Chess Championship in Armenia in 2015, considering that Armenia is a country with rich chess traditions. The minister also informed the audience that Armenia is the unique country in the world where “Chess” is taught in schools as a subject of general education.
In addition to the representatives of more than 20 member countries of the association, the president of the University Sports Federation of neighboring Georgia was also present at the Yerevan session of the European University Sports Association as a guest.
