The recordings are reminiscent of apocalyptic scenes as drawn by the American writer Cormac McCarthy in his 2006 dystopian novel “The Road”: In it, a father and his son walk through a devastated country after an unspecified catastrophe. Devastation was also caused by the more than 30 tornadoes that passed through six states in the southeast and the center of the United States on Saturday night. Pictures from Kentucky, which has been particularly hard hit, show trees that have simply been bent over like matches, cars spun around, buildings collapsed.
