During his July 24 testimony on the crimes committed at the September 28 stadium in 2009, the lawyer, Maitre Thierno Souleymane Baldé, returned to the coming to power of the soldiers of the National Council for Democracy and Development, CNDD. He recalled that at the end of the General Lansana Conté regime, he had initiated a movement which brought together young leaders from Conakry for the departure of the General in power. It is in this context that President Conté died on December 22, 2008.

Thus, being one of the leaders of the movement, Mr. Baldé claims to have been contacted by army officers. This is how he made contact with the CNDD, the junta that seized power on December 23, 2008. “I wanted to restore the historical truth to the people of Guinea. I never asked for anything in exchange for my work in the CNDD. I wanted to tell my story in front of the main actors of the CNDD, of which I was a key player. It was I who wrote the first statement that defined the pattern of the Transition. I played a fundamental role at the beginning, with the aim of allowing a new Guinea with strong and lasting institutions, but alas, men and history wanted it otherwise. I was offered twice to join the government of the time, but I declined the offer. I gave my time and my resources without any consideration. I took risks that could have cost me my life, for my country. I am proud and I have the moral satisfaction of knowing that I was able to make my modest contribution to the safeguard of my country, which is priceless”.
