The Italian ship Duilio shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle in the Red Sea that was approaching it.

As Day.Az reports with reference to the Italian Ministry of Defense, the crew acted based on the principle of self-defense.

As indicated, the drone met all the characteristics of those previously used in attempted attacks. He approached to a distance of 6 km.

“The said vessel is currently in the zone to guarantee free navigation along commercial routes following attacks by Houthi factions,” the statement said.

Defense Minister Guido Crosetto noted that Houthi attacks on commercial ships are “terrorist in nature and a violation of international law.”

Italy has taken tactical command of the new EU maritime mission Aspides in the Red Sea, but participation in this mission has not yet been formally approved in the national parliament. Voting is due on March 5th.
